ABOUT US
Dimapur Railway High School is one of the oldest schools, not only in Dimapur but also in the entire state of Nagaland. The necessity of an educational institution at the heart of the town was felt by the then educational enthusiasts of Dimapur.
Thus, in accordance with the above, this deemed institute came into existence in the month of November of the year 1951 by the then P.W.I. of Manipur Road, Sri Purna Chandra Ghose with only 25 students in the present Railway land and in a thatched house. The school began with a team of qualified professionals namely: Sri Satya Charan Deb, Sri Sachin Dasgupta, Sri Kasinath Bhattacharjee headed by Sri Kumud Bondhu Bhattacharjee.
An interesting fact about the school is that, initially the school was named Manipur Road M.E. School in coherence with the name of Manipur Road Railway Station. However, after the Railway station was renamed as Dimapur Railway Station, collaterally the name of the school was altered to Dimapur Railway High School.
In the year 1952, the Assam Education Department accorded recognition to the school upto M.E. (6th) standard. Acute demand compelled the management to start Class VII in 1957. Gradually, Class VIII in 1958, Class IX in 1960 and Class X in 1961. The school was granted recognition by the Gauhati University in the same year. The school was under Secondary Education Board of Assam, Gauhati upto 1974. The school is under Nagaland Board, Kohima since the inception of board in 1975
In the year 1996, on 1st April, the school acquired distinction being taken over by the Indian Railway authority.
The school has been recurrently coming out with flying colours in the HSLC examination since the day of its emergence.
